Mechanical behavior of freeze-cast Ti foams with varied porosity

چکیده

Titanium (Ti) foams with relative densities of 0.32, 0.37, and 0.49 were processed via freeze casting. The mechanical characteristics samples different porosities studied in uniaxial compression tests at initial strain rates between 0.001 0.5 s−1. According to the results, stress–strain response does not significantly depend on rate, least up applied maximum stress, which corresponds 0.1–0.3 engineering strain. In-situ acoustic emission (AE) experiments have revealed that stress drop beyond formation propagation macrocracks. However, cracks also initiated below particularly, higher densities. analysis Young's modulus yield strength versus porosity exhibits a power law relationship high exponent (approximately 4–5). This is reasonable if decrease level associated change deformation mechanism from model Gibson–Ashby (GA) 0.37 density.

Study of the compression and wear-resistance properties of freeze-cast Ti and Ti‒5W alloy foams for biomedical applications.

Ti and Ti‒5wt% W alloy foams were produced by freeze-casting process and their mechanical behaviors were compared. The Ti‒5W alloy foam showed a typical acicular Widmanstätten α/β structure with most of the W dissolved in the β phase. An electron-probe microanalysis revealed that approximately 2wt% W was uniformly dissolved in the Ti matrix of Ti‒5W alloy foam with few partially dissolved W par...

Morphological analysis of pores in directionally freeze-cast titanium foams

Synchrotron x-ray tomography was performed on titanium foams with aligned, elongated pores, initially created by sintering directionally freeze-cast preforms using two different powder sizes. Three-dimensional reconstructions of the pore structures were analyzed morphologically using interface shape and interface normal distributions. A smaller powder size leads to more completely sintered tita...

Mechanical properties and grindability of dental cast Ti-Nb alloys.

Aiming at developing a dental titanium alloy with better mechanical properties and machinability than unalloyed titanium, a series of Ti-Nb alloys with Nb concentrations up to 30% was made. They were cast into magnesia-based molds using a dental casting machine and the mechanical properties and grindability of the castings were examined. The hardness of the alloys with Nb concentrations of 5% a...

Mechanical properties and microstructures of dental cast Ti-Ag and Ti-Cu alloys.

In this study, experimental Ti-Ag alloys (5, 10, and 20 mass% Ag) and Ti-Cu alloys (2, 5, and 10 mass% Cu) were made in an argon-arc melting furnace. The alloys were cast into magnesia molds using an argon gas-pressure dental casting machine, and the mechanical properties and microstructures of the castings were investigated. As the concentration of silver or copper in the alloys increased, the...

Comparison among Mechanical Properties of Investment-Cast c.p. Ti, Ti-6Al-7Nb and Ti-15Mo-1Bi Alloys

The present study compares castability and mechanical performance among alloys of c.p. Ti, Ti-6Al-7Nb and a newly-developed Ti-15Mo-1Bi in regard to their as-cast state. Experimental results indicate that average cast length of Ti-6Al-7Nb appears a little lower than c.p. Ti and Ti-15Mo-1Bi, although the differences are not significant. C.p. Ti has an hcp phase of lath-type morphology with serra...
